重慶高新區于1991年3月經國務院批準設立，先后被評為全國先進高新區、國家高新技術產業標準化示范區、國家知識產權試點園區、國家創新服務體系建設試點園區和全國首批科技服務業試點，是國家級軟件產業基地、國家生物產業基地、高技術服務產業基地、科技興貿創新基地。

高新區規劃建設面積73平方公里，其中：東部石橋鋪、二郎片區20平方公里，西部金鳳、含谷、白市驛組團53平方公里。經過二十余年的發展，高新區發展形成了良好的產業基礎、較強的科研實力和完善的配套體系。尤其是2013年以來，高新區深入貫徹全市加快建設五大功能區域戰略部署，緊緊圍繞招商引資、產業發展、開發建設、科技創新四大核心任務，提速打造西區國家級綜合型高新技術產業基地和東區石橋鋪、二郎兩大高技術服務中心，構建起石墨烯新材料、電子信息、生物醫藥、裝備制造、高技術服務、現代商貿物流等新興產業集群，發展質量效益有力提升，城市功能形象日趨完善，創新創業能力全市領先。

2015年，高新區地區生產總值386.4億元，同比增長14.6%；固定資產投資284.6億元，同比增長16.3%；規上工業總產值403.1億元，同比增長18%；社零銷售總額314.8億元，同比增長14.4%；限上批零銷售總額548.5億元，同比增長33.5%；高技術服務業收入100.1億元，同比增長20%。高新區萬人發明專利擁有量18.3件，是全市的4.3倍；連續三年新增國家高新技術企業、重點新產品、高新技術產品數量位居全市第一。

Approved and established by the State Council in March 1991, Chongqing Hi-Tech Zone as the nationallevel software industry base, national biological industry base, hi-tech service industry base and innovation base for trade invigorating by science and technology has been successively rated as the National Advanced Hi-tech Zone, National Demonstration Zone for Hitech Industrial Standardization, National Intellectual Property Pilot Zone, National Pilot Zone for Innovative Service System Construction and National First Batch Pilot Zone for Sci-tech Service Industry.

Covering a planned construction area of 73km2, the east Shiqiaopu and Erlang areas occupy an area of 20km2while the west Jinfeng, Hangu and Baishiyi clusters cover an area of 53km2. A good industrial base, strong scientifi c research strength and thorough supporting system have taken their shape in Hi-Tech Zone through over 20 years of development. Especially since 2013, by deeply implementing the strategic deployment of accelerating the construction of five functional zones in Chongqing, Hi-Tech Zone has expedited the building of national-level integrated base for hi-tech industry in west and the two hi-tech service centers in Shiqiaopu and Erlang by hinging around investment promotion, industrial development, development and construction and technological innovation, and has established some clusters of emerging industries like the graphene, electronic information, biological medicine, equipment manufacturing, high technology service and modern commercial logistics. As a result, the development of quality efficiency has been highly promoted; the urban functional image is becoming mature and the abilities of innovation and entrepreneurship go ahead in Chongqing.

In 2015, the GDP of Hi-Tech Zone rose 14.6% year on year to RMB 38.64 billion; the FAI achieved RMB 28.46 billion, attaining a growth of 16.3%; the total value of above-scale industry rose 18% year on year to RMB 40.31 billion; the total retail sales of consumer goods reached up to RMB 31.48 billion, increasing by 14.4%; the total sales of above-designated size wholesale retail rose 33.5% year on year to RMB 54.85 billion and the income of high technology service industry increased by 20%, achieving RMB 10.01 billion. The number of invention patents for every 10,000 head of population of Hi-Tech Zone is 18.3, which is 4.3 times of the number of the whole municipality. Moreover, the number of national hi-tech enterprises, key and new products and hi-tech products stands first in Chongqing for three consecutive years.
