Research on bilingual teaching strategy of table tennis in Sports universities

【Abstract】Economic globalization promotes the international development of sports talents and sports education. Bilingual teaching has become the inevitable trend of sports education in universities and the key point of teaching reform. It is the necessary way to realize the sports teaching and scientific research in line with international standards. This paper analyzes the the importance and characteristics of bilingual teaching of table tennis in sports colleges and explores the strategy of table tennis education, aiming at providing some reference opinions for the development of pingpong bilingual teaching in sports colleges.

1. The importance of bilingual teaching of table tennis in sports colleges

The internationalization of higher education is the inevitable requirement of economic globalization. To realize internationalization of higher education and meet the social needs, we must keep pace, update the traditional physical education thoughts and ideas so as to cultivate sports talents with high qualities. As a “country sport”, pingpong plays an important role in the spread of sports culture and international communication. Therefore, students of table tennis majors should not only possess sports knowledge and skills, but also strong English communication level, so as to learn foreign advanced ideas and sports technology, understand the changing international rules, improve the ability to communicate with table tennis organization or individual from abroad, so as to promote the development of sports enterprise in our country. The purpose of Table tennis bilingual teaching is to let students think in two languages at the same time, become high-quality talents with strong professional knowledge and high level of English. Bilingual teaching can promote the second language learning and use combined with professional knowledge, broaden the students' learning and communication interface, meet the needs of bilingual talents of table tennis. Bilingual teaching has become an inevitable trend of our country's university education.

2. Bilingual teaching characteristics of table tennis

2.1 Intuitive

Table tennis class have unique advantages for bilingual teaching. It is intuitive and situational and has greater intellectual activity space compared with other theory course. It is possible to make bilingual teaching for table tennis because of its intuitiveness. In table tennis teaching, the formation of a correct movement and technology needs the multi-level and different forms of demonstrations by teachers. Action demonstration can make students form the intuitive action representation. In the process of demonstration, teachers describe the action in English, make the English vocabulary and terminology related to technology of high frequency, help students to practice listening, and gradually to cultivate the students' ability to understand technical movement in English.

2.2 repeatability

Although the formation of skills and acquirement are two different learning content, they have internal consistency which both require a lot of practice. In table tennis teaching practice, some basic technical exercises, such as the block, attack, loop, appear in different forms in each class. Therefore, the teacher can make full use of this characteristic. In the interpretation of the strokes, the link of hitting the ball, the way and purpose of practice, the mistakes and correct method, teachers can use English and makes some simple sentences and English terms associated with practice frequently, to cultivate the students' listening comprehension and the ability to use English to understand technical movement. At the same time, the teachers can encourage students to use English to communicate with partners.

3. Bilingual teaching strategy of table tennis in sports college

3.1 Strengthen the bilingual teaching ability of pingpong teachers

Sports bilingual teachers play a key role in the implementation of the curriculum. The overall level of bilingual teachers directly affects the effect of bilingual courses. Table tennis teachers in sports colleges should not only have sports skills but also fluent English. However, at present only a handful of sports colleges have set up bilingual teaching course for table tennis, and the shortage of bilingual teachers is one of the biggest difficulties faced by bilingual teaching.Therefore, we should strengthen the training of table tennis bilingual teaching mainly from the following several aspects: 1. Schools should increase investment, strengthen the English training of table tennis teachers, adopt the method of centralized training and school training. The excellent talents can be selected from the bilingual teaching faculty reserve, which can also be selected training abroad; 2. Strengthen exchanges between sports colleges and universities, realizing share of talent. To make full use of teaching resources, introducing competition mechanism, realize course-across teaching and efficient integration of resources; 3.Table tennis teachers should update their own concept, establish the consciousness of lifelong learning. Bilingual teaching put forward higher requirements for teachers. Tteachers should actively explore the path of the continuing education, construct the long-term learning method and strategy and broaden the autonomy learning form.

3.2 perfect table tennis bilingual textbooks

Table tennis bilingual teaching should be based on the actual needs of bilingual teaching of table tennis, emphasize special features, and absorbing foreign original teaching materials in the latest teaching methods and ideas, combining with the domestic teaching materials of knowledge, strive to make the teaching material with the characteristics of age and professional characteristics. At present, there is a lack of table tennis bilingual textbooks. The sports colleges can use the original edition of English countries according to the actual conditions, download teaching materials on line, and can also set up the corresponding table tennis bilingual teaching courseware according to the teaching material. Bilingual teaching courseware should departure from the students' actual level, follow the principle of “from easy to difficult, step by step”. For example, give some simple words first, such as serving, topspin, pen-hold grip etc.After the students grasp the professional English vocabulary, all the courseware can be expressed in English. In addition, the teacher can also use the Internet to broaden students' horizons.Download some information from the Internet for students and at the same time introduce some English journals about table tennis which can open the student's field of vision and also improve their level of English reading and understanding.

3.3 To establish and perfect table tennis course assessment of bilingual teaching system

Bilingual teaching evaluation system includes the bilingual teachers teaching ability examination and the evaluation of student achievement. Establishing and perfecting examination system can improve the bilingual teachers' professional quality and teaching level, increase spending on bilingual teaching, promote reform actively, innovating teaching methods and improve the quality of teaching. The evaluation of student achievement should no longer just stay on the table tennis technical appraisal, but also the proportion of oral English in bilingual teaching of table tennis course exam. Take the way of technology exam combined with oral exam. Students performance in the classroom and spoken English can also be included in the test scores, to encourage students' learning enthusiasm, improve their ability of language expression, thinking level, and degree of knowledge.

The promotion of bilingual teaching of table tennis in sports colleges is a long-term work which calls for the cooperation of teachers, students, and the whole education environment. School leaders should give support, pay attention to the cultivation of teachers, improve the students' English level and the bilingual teaching material, establish and perfect the evaluation system, so as to cultivate more internationally competitive table tennis talents to meet the need of social development.
