名詞中幾個需要重點關注的語法點包括：不可數名詞的具體化、某些不可數名詞復數形式的特殊意義、雙重所有格以及名詞作定語的特殊用法。另外，表示數量的詞組五花八門，有的修飾可數名詞，有的修飾不可數名詞，有的二者都可以修飾，不同的詞組在表示多少的程度上也有所差異，鑒于這種情況，分層分類的復習方法就顯得尤為重要。

1. 不可數名詞的具體化

具有某種特性、狀態、情感的抽象名詞在表示具體的概念時，可以與不定冠詞連用。常考的有：

beauty 美麗/美麗的人或事物

comfort 安慰/令人感到安慰的人或事物

danger 危險/危險的人或事物

delight 高興/令人高興的事

failure 失敗/失敗的人或事物

shock 震驚/令人震驚的事情

surprise 驚奇/令人驚奇的事情

success 成功/成功的人或事

pleasure 樂趣/令人高興的事

pride 驕傲/令人驕傲的事情

Its a comfort to know that she is safe.

He doesnt show much surprise at the wonderful things he sees.

2. 不可數名詞的復數形式

某些不可數名詞的復數形式表示與單數形式不同的意義。?？嫉挠校?/p>

woods 樹林；waters 水域；papers文件，報紙；looks 外貌；greens 青菜；times 時代；drinks 飲料；customs 海關；works 著作；manners 禮貌；sands 沙灘；forces 軍隊；imports 進口貨物；ashes 灰燼；spirits 心情，情緒；losses 損失物；feelings 感情；pains 辛苦； returns 長壽。

Police believe the gunmen ran off into the woods.

Johnny has changed his image to fit the times.

3. 雙重所有格的結構和用法

結構：“of+名詞所有格”和“of+名詞性物主代詞”。如：

a novel of liuqings 劉青的一部小說

a room of hers 她的一個房間

雙重所有格中帶有s所有格的名詞必須是一個明確的指人的名詞，同時of前面的名詞必須是不確定的，表示很多數目中的一個或幾個。它修飾的名詞前常有a（an），one，some，many，any，no等限定詞。如：

Some friends of my sisters will join us in the game.

注意 當of前的名詞是picture， photo， portrait， statue等時，用of所有格和雙重所有格意義不同。一般of所有格表示前后名詞的同位關系，如a photo of mary（瑪麗本人的照片）；而雙重所有格表示擁有、所屬關系，如a photo of marys（瑪麗收藏的照片，不一定是她本人的照片）。

4. 名詞作定語的特殊情況

（1）通常情況下，若無相應的派生形容詞，可直接用名詞作定語，或與之構成合成詞。它能表明被修飾名詞的地點、時間、目的或用途、種類、原料、來源等。

表示地點。如：

city streets 城市街道

a corner shop 街角的商店

表示時間。如：

summer holidays 暑假

sunday papers 周日報紙

表示目的或用途。如：

a tennis court 網球場

a tennis club 網球俱樂部

表示種類。如：

a love story 愛情故事

a murder story 兇殺故事

表示原料或來源。如：

stone walls 石墻

straw hats 草帽

（2）有的作定語用的名詞還有與之相應的同根形容詞。一般情況下，名詞作定語側重說明被修飾的名詞的內容或性質；同根形容詞作定語則常常描寫被修飾的名詞的特征。如：

gold watch 指手表含有金

golden watch 手表是金色的，不一定含有金

stone house 石頭造的房子

stony heart 鐵石般的心腸

（3）名詞作定語與名詞所有格作定語有意義上的區別。一般來說，名詞作定語通常說明被修飾的詞的性質，而名詞所有格作定語則強調對被修飾的詞的所有（權）關系或表示邏輯上的謂語關系。如：

在the party members（黨員）中，名詞定語表示members的性質；在 the partys calls（黨的號召）中，party具有表示動作發出者的作用，calls是表示動作的名詞。再如a student teacher意為“實習教師”，a students teacher意為“一位學生的老師”。

1. 表示數量的詞組

（1）既可以修飾可數名詞，又可以修飾不可數名詞的詞組，如Some， any， a lot of， lots of， enough， plenty of， a large quantity of， large quantities of。

a lot of后面可跟可數名詞復數形式，也可跟抽象的或表示物質的名詞，在否定句中習慣用not many或not much。lots of與 a lot of同義。如：

What will you do if you win a lot of money？

plenty of后面可跟復數形式的名詞或不可數名詞，其含義是“需要多少有多少”或“比實際需要的還要多”，有時，意思有些像漢語的“還多著呢”。如：

Theres plenty of coffee in the kitchen.

a large quantity of與large quantities of的區別：

在它們分別和其后的名詞短語作主語時，前者的謂語動詞單復數通常與of后的名詞保持一致，即若是接不可數名詞，則用單數，若是接復數可數名詞，則用復數；而后者的謂語動詞通常都用復數形式。如：

A large quantity of beer was sold out.

A large quantity of books were sent to the library.

（2）只可修飾可數名詞的詞組。如A few，few，several，many，many a，a great many，a number of，hundreds/dozens of。

few和a few的區別：雖然都是修飾可數名詞，但是 few意為“幾乎沒有”，表示否定；a few意為“一點，有些”，表示肯定。如：

A few books have been lost from the library.

Successful women politicians are few and far between.

many a后面跟可數名詞的單數形式來表示數量多，其余的詞組跟上可數名詞的復數形式。如：

I dont think many people would argue with that.

New babies often mean many a sleepless night for parents.

a number of與the number of的區別：前者表示“許多、大量的”，后者跟名詞復數，表示“……的數量”。如：

A number of cables are needed in this project.

He must limit the number of cigarettes he smokes.

hundreds/dozens of表示很多，有數百、數十的意思。如：

Ive had hundreds of calls from other victims.

There are dozens of birds in the sky.

（3）只可修飾不可數名詞的詞組。如A little， little， much， a large deal， a large amount of， large amounts of。

little和a little的區別與few和a few 相同，只不過little和a little均修飾不可數名詞。如：

I have little compunction in doing it.

The tension between us has eased off a little.

a great deal of后面只能跟抽象名詞或物質名詞，a great deal也可用作狀語。如：

The race gave every one a great deal of pleasure.

The traditional role of women in china has changed a great deal in recent years.

a large amount of與large amounts of的區別：在它們分別和其后的名詞短語作主語時，前者的謂語動詞用單數形式，而后者的用復數形式。如：

A large amount of capital is invested in all these branches.

Large amounts of money were spent on the magnificent building.

2. 易混名詞辨析

（1）affair， matter， business

affair 含義最廣，指“事件、事務”，作為復數形式出現時指“公共事務”。

I have been very interested in foreign affairs.

matter指需要考慮的“事件”，在the matter with ... 結構中，the matter 指“麻煩、困難”。如：

We all wonder what the matter with the new machine is.

business指“任務、職務”，有時指所從事的工作或商業活動。如：

Sorry， the manager is away on business.

（2）power， strength， force， energy

power指力、力氣，（動物或人）做事或行動的能力，其復數形式表示體力，能力。也指人的權力、勢力、能力和事物的動力。

Barack Hussein Obama came into power in 2009.

strength表示強壯、力量、如人的力氣、智力、精力，也指物質的強度或潛力。

By doing so， you can test the strength of steel.

force著重指力量、暴力、強制力、效力、物質或精神力量等。復數形式表示兵力、武力。

He robbed me of my money by force.

energy主要指精力、活力、身體內部的能量、能源。

The man is old but he is full of energy.

（3）cause， reason， excuse

cause是造成一種事實或現象的原因、起因，后接介詞of。

Carelessness is the usual cause of fire.

reason是說明一種看法或行為的“理由”。

You must tell him the reason why you wont accept his offer.

excuse意為“借口、辯解”。

Late again！ Whats your excuse of this time？

（4）custom， habit， tradition

custom指某個國家、集體或社會內長期的、固定的“風俗，習俗”。

It is a custom in China to eat moon cakes at the Mid-autumn Festival.

habit指個人由于不斷地重復而習以為常的行為，即“習慣”。

It is a good habit to wash ones hands before a meal.

tradition意思是“傳統”，指世代相傳的有約束力的慣例、規范、原則。

It is a tradition for the young to support the old.

（5）alive， live， living， lively

alive意為“活著的，還出氣的”，作表語或后置定語。如：

When he reached the hospital， his grandpa was still alive.

live意為“活的，有生命的”，作前置定語，主要用來指動物，或表示現場直播的節目（表示轉播時用recorded）。

The cat is playing with a live mouse.

living指人或動物活著、健在，還指事物現在還被使用。與the連用表示活著的一類。

My grandma is still living at the age of 93.

lively指“活潑的，生機勃勃的”，作形式表語、定語，指人或物。

She had a sweet， lively personality.
