1.2 新與舊的體量到底是一個什么樣的關系，是方案最糾結的問題。開始的兩個月基本都在這個問題上反復推敲和論證/What should be the relationship between the new and the old volume is the biggest problem of the design. For the frst two months at the beginning,this issue is under our scrutiny and argument over and over again.

3 終于讓自己相信越簡單越直接也許才最有力量。未來是過去歲月的鏡面對稱，穿越是感悟的開始，我追求的是一舉多得，毫不啰嗦的直言。此舉，也讓我有了更清晰的建構可能性/Finally we concluded that the simpler we express it, the more powerful it will be. The future is the mirror of the past years, and through the veil of time we come to enlightenment. I pursue the wisdom of achieving many things at one stroke and speaking bluntly without unnecessary words. This makes it possible for me a clearer construction logic.

這是一個改造項目。甲方希望拆除它之后能增值，雙年展主辦方考慮的是公共利益，同時入口又必須有一個實驗性的效應；作為建筑師，我覺得既然是改造，對于時間和記憶，應該有一種鮮明的態度和立場。于是，私有與公共、普適與具體、大眾化與先鋒性、過去與未來，這些并存是對立面還是一個硬幣的兩面? 如果把這些都考慮周全，估計建筑將是一個妥協的產物。但我總覺得它應該作為一種宣言式的存在，但又不僅僅作為一種宣言式的存在。□

This is a renovation project. The client hopes to have an added value after the renovation while the Biennial organisers take into account public interest and its experimental efects as the entrance; as architects, I think since it is a renovation, there should be a clear attitude and position for the time and memory. Then it brings the question that whether the coexistence like the private and public, the universal and the concrete, the popular and the vanguard, are the opposite sides of a coin or not. But I think if we try to balance all these ,the fnal result might become a compromised product. I always feel that it should be a manifestation of the existence, but not only as a declaration of its existence.□(Translated by QI Yiyi)
