On the advantages and disadvantages of Christo

Abstract：the original intention of its public art is to advocate environmental protection and guard against the importance of environmental protection in the form of its package. However，in terms of its cultural connotation and permanence，Christo's public art is worth thinking and exploring. This paper expounds the advantages and disadvantages of Christo's public art in terms of its artistic expression，cultural connotation and art permanence.

I. The artistic forms of crystal's works：

From 1969 to 1976，the Christos completed three huge and amazing landscape works：wrapping the coast，wrapping the canyon and running fence. Wrapping the coast：the 1609 meter coast near Sydney，Australia，is wrapped with 92900 square meters of Anticorrosive fabric and 56 kilometers of rope. The cliffs are covered with silver white fabric，transforming from the beauty of cragginess to the beauty of mystery and softness.

However，it is very difficult for the Christos to connect their works with the harmony of nature，and even produce a sense of disobedience from the visual point of view.

2. Cultural connotation：

It is also the earth art. The sculpture of Dalu island is an excellent representative of China's earth art. The concept of "man and nature are the same structure" is Hong Shiqing's concept of artistic creation. The concept of "heaven" is the creation of nature and "man" is the processing of human intention. His works are natural，one third of which is made by nature，one third by man，and one third by time.

However，the creation of polypropylene fabric or other materials adds a kind of artificial artistic effect to the beauty of nature，which has certain creativity. However，this imposed，thoughtless art brings a sense of foreign matter independent of the nature of heaven and earth，which cannot be ignored.

3. Art permanence：

In memorial architecture as a whole，sculpture and buildings have a natural affinity. They jointly construct the space of human spiritual life. With their eternal materials，diverse forms and profound connotations，they can have a continuous impact on a nation's history and civilization.

"Our works are all about freedom. The enemy of freedom is to own，so to disappear is more permanent than to exist，" Christo said The wrapping art will disappear with time. On the other hand，Christo's public art is only a short-term public art，which does not have the feature of permanence.
