Clinical efficacy of manipulation of bone setting and tendon regulating combined with oral and external application of Chinese materia medica on patients with lumbar disc herniation

[Abstract] Objective To explore the therapeutic efficacy of manipulation of bone setting and tendon regulating combined with oral and external application of Chinese materia medica on patients with lumbar disc herniation. Methods A total of 82 patients with lumbar disc herniation admitted to our hospital from May 2018 to May 2020 were selected as observation objects，and all patients were divided into the observation group（n=41） and the control group（n=41） according to the random number table method. Patients in the control group were treated with manipulation of bone setting and tendon regulating，while those in the observation group were treated with manipulation of bone setting and tendon regulating combined with oral and external application of Chinese materia medica. Visual analogue scale （VAS） was used to compare the pain degree between the two groups of patients before and after treatment， Oswestry dysfunction index （ODI） questionnaire was used to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of the two groups， general quality of life scale （GQOL-74） was used to compare the quality of life （QOL） before and after treatment， and the total effective rate of treatment were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment， the VAS score and ODI score in the two groups were both significantly decreased （P<0.05）. After treatment， the VAS score and ODI score in the observation group were all significantly lower than those in the control group（P<0.05）. After treatment， the scores of social function， physical function， psychological function and material life score of the two groups increased， and the scores of the observation group were all significantly higher than those in the control group（P<0.05）. After treatment， the total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was 95.12%， which was significantly higher than 78.05% in the control group（P<0.05）. Conclusion The treatment of patients with lumbar disc herniation by manipulation of bone setting and tendon regulating combined with oral and external application of TCM can effectively relieve the pain of patients and improve their QOL， with a good therapeutic efficacy.
