Study in China will allow me to better learn and experience this vast and challenging world.
I’m introverted, quiet, and withdrawn, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a goal to work towards. My dream led me to study hard for more than two years–and that was to study in China and to widen my new intellectual horizons. The process of chasing my dreams has changed my perspective on many things in life. I believe that studying in China can absorb knowledge and experience this vast and challenging world. How glad that the spring breeze of the Belt and Road Initiative has made my dream come true and fall on the land of China, which has attracted me a lot, so that I can have more opportunities to approach China. On the way to study abroad for more than two years, I met many likeminded friends, so I not only sweated along the way, but also clearly touched the real youth and the tears of happiness when I realized my dreams.
In 2018, I started to learn Chinese at university. In 2020, I spared no effort to plan to study in China. In 2022, I successfully won a scholarship to study abroad, and in 2023 I finally fulfilled my dream and set foot on Chinese land, experiencing real life in Harbin and enjoying the serious and down-to-earth learning atmosphere of Harbin Engineering University.
When I first arrived in the distant Ice City, I couldn’t understand the northeast dialect, but it made me deeply feel the vastness of China’s territory and the rich language and culture. In the winter, I saw a wide variety of ice and snow activities on the Songhua River, the majestic and magnificent St. Sophia church, the ingenious Russian wooden houses and the ice and snow world, which fulfilled my little snow dream. Under the guidance of my teachers, I studied Chinese with international students from different countries at school, and it was really fun and rewarding, and I gradually fell in love with this city that means a lot to me.
Not only did the traditional culture, classic artworks, and 5,000 years of Chinese history made me understand China, but I also experienced the nation through the hit dramas in recent years. The two dramas “Meet Yourself” and “Nothing but Thirty” made me have a different perspective, deep feelings and new thoughts on observing modern China. I imagined the rapid changes in the bustling city of Shanghai and the peace and tranquility of the small township in Yunnan; I look forward to the golden patches of Wuyuan in the splendid spring, and the green veins of the Longji Terraces spreading to the sky... Of course, there are many fascinating places and intoxicating landscapes in China that I didn’t know about. I use my little camera to capture and record meaningful moments of the places I’ve been visited.
Reading thousands of books and traveling thousands of miles, I have witnessed the modernization of Shenzhen, the majesty of Tianfu Airport in Chengdu, Sichuan, and the busy traffic in the eastern urban area of Hangzhou, Zhejiang, which have shown me the fashion of China today. Every paragraph in the textbook, every trip to a different city, and every time I meet new people, I have gained indescribable touches and broadened my horizons.
When I focused on my studies, I couldn’t help but think of the words of Professor Hua Luogeng, a contemporary Chinese mathematician, who encouraged young people to learn, saying: “In the long river of seeking truth, only by studying, constantly learning, studying diligently, and learning creatively, can we cross the mountains and mountains.” This sentence made me think that regular learning and creative learning are completely different. For example, if I am majoring in photojournalism, if I write a paper on the same topic as others, I should not analyze the same aspects, the same scene, and shoot from the same angle with others. That’s real learning, creative learning. There are many challenges to be faced with, and in each case we need to weigh them carefully, discern them carefully, and then decide what to do. Through reading, I developed a desire to understand the world, and when I embarked on the journey to see the world, I deepened my understanding of what I learned in books and gained more thoughts, which is the virtuous cycle and bring more benefits.
Studying in China is a unique and unforgettable experience for me, which not only allows me to gain a wealth of knowledge and academic achievements, but also broadens my path to growth. No matter what challenges I face, I believe in myself, as studying abroad will open up a new chapter in my life and open up a broad world for my future. The Belt and Road Initiative has opened a precious window for many people like me, one by one, how fortunate we are to go out of our hometown, taking firm steps on this beautiful road to realize our dreams step by step. Let us explore our infinite possibilities on the way and feel the novelty and loveliness of the world. Thank you Belt and Road Initiative, which allows us to meet everything we have never seen in a fast way, and to be intimate with people from all corners of the global village, so as to harvest a better us.
