Gossip Girl is an American television teen drama based on the popular novel series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar. Gossip Girl revolves1) around the lives of socialite2) young adults growing up on New York's Upper East Side who attend elite3) academic institutions while dealing with friendship， jealousy， and other teenage issues. The series is narrated by a seemingly omniscient4) yet unseen character， \"Gossip Girl\"， who runs a blog about her fellow Upper East Siders—consequently stirring the pot and creating potential rivalries5) in this exclusive6) circle of friends.

Serena (portrayed7) by Blake Lively) has suddenly left Manhattan for a boarding school of her own accord8) for reasons unknown， thereby straining9) relations with her best friend， Blair Waldorf (portrayed by Leighton Meester). Although Blair is hurt by her best friend's departure， she relishes10) her new position as the \"Queen Bee\" in their circle of friends， along with her boyfriend， Nate Archibald， though blissfully11) unaware of Nate's involvement in Serena's sudden departure.

However， when Serena returns， Blair is extremely reluctant because it would mean giving up the \"Queen Bee\" position she held in Serena's absence. She also fears losing Nate to Serena， if Nate still loves Serena. Blair uses her charm， money and social clout12) to get what she wants. But at the end， she chooses to let go both her \"Queen Bee\" position and her boyfriend Nate， but to chase her dreams: attending Yale University.

And Serena， on the other hand， though often criticized by her classmates who find her an excellent source of gossip， never cares about what others say. At the end， she decides to stay in New York City， instead of attending one of the many Ivy Leagues schools she got into， because she wants to discover her life for herself.

Gossip Girl presents a wealth-eye view of the city. Living among the wealthy in New York is an experience of queasy13) ambivalence14). It also presents a typical teenage world in this age of social networking， web-enabled camera phones and absolutely no privacy whatsoever. Besides， it is another glimpse of tomorrow's world where teens are worldly and wise， adults naiveor depraved15). That's why this show tends to appeal to teens， children who can't wait to be teens， and adults who wish they were teens.

At the 10th annual \"Teen Choice Awards\"， which were selected by over 30 million votes cast online by teenagers， honor celebrities in TV， film， music， sports and fashion， Gossip Girl was lauded16) with six \"Teen Choice Awards\": TV drama， breakout show， breakout male actor Chace Crawford， breakout female and TV drama actress Blake Lively and TV villain17) Ed Westwick (who plays the antagonistic18) Chuck Bass on the series).
