The Bible and WaIt Whitman’S POemS

The Bible， which is the Hebrew Soriptures，is viewed as a library of differ-ent literary types rather than a single book. In this libra~ in the Old Testamentthere are classics like the Psalms， the Song of Solomon， Ecclesiastes， Isaiah，and Jeremiah. As the cIassics from the ancient times， they have formulated a newform of poem.which is the Biblical free verse. From these ancient writings wefind the trend of free rome. Many great poets follow the path of this form of writ-ings and get inspirations from them. The pioneer of these great poets is WaltWhitman， the first practitioner of free verse in modem times， the greatest poet inAmerican history. His poems are collected in his Leaves of Grass， which hasopened a new age for poetry creation. Needless to say the Biblical free verse hasprodded fine models for Walt Whitman.
