虛擬語氣的教學案例

  摘 要: 本篇是一個虛擬語氣的教學案例(《牛津高中英語》模塊六第三單元語法),通過上節課結束時讓學生翻譯一個有關虛擬語氣的英文句子所反映出的疑惑與不解這一案例,引起作者的重視,并根據這一情況課前進行學情和教材分析,然后認真準備了一節虛擬語氣(用于條件狀語從句)的語法課,以學生為主體,力爭通過這節課的教授能幫助學生理解虛擬語氣,解決他們的疑惑,并能在練習中靈活而正確地運用。最后通過練習就所學知識對學生進行了調查,及時反饋本節課的掌握情況。課后結合學生反饋情況進行教學反思,對于學生的薄弱環節在下一節課進行重點講解。

  因為下一節課我要教給學生一個新的語法現象——虛擬語氣(用于條件狀語從句中),所以在快下課時我請學生們翻譯了兩個句子:1.如果我是一只小鳥,我會在天空中自由的飛翔。2.如果我是你,現在我就會更加地努力學習。學生們翻譯為:1.If I am a bird,I will fly freely in the sky.2.If I am you,I work harder now.而正確的翻譯為:1.If I were a bird,I would fly freely in the sky.2.If I were you,I would work harder now.我及時糾正了他們的錯誤。學生們立刻表示疑惑或不解,因為這和中文有很大的差異,和以前學過的時態也有很大的不同。他們提出了一些問題:為什么條件狀語從句不用一般現在時?主句為什么用過去將來時?如果從句用過去時I應和was相配,為何用were,這難道不是語法錯誤嗎?你是用英語中的哪種句型來翻譯的?學生們提出的問題引起了我的重視,帶著這些疑問,我精心準備了一節虛擬語氣(用于條件狀語從句)的課,力爭通過這節課的教授能幫助學生理解虛擬語氣,解決他們的疑惑,并使其能在練習中靈活而正確地運用。
  在教授虛擬語氣前要考慮以下幾個方面:
  1.課前學情分析:教學對象為高中二年級上的學生,他們大都從沒有接觸過虛擬語氣,對他們來說這是全新的,而且教授的是虛擬語氣在條件狀語從句中的運用,容易和以前學過的真實的條件狀語從句混淆;會對謂語動詞的幾種表現形式混淆,不易掌握虛擬條件句的倒裝。
  2.教材分析:本課所教授的是虛擬語氣在條件狀語從句中的運用,有三種情況:與現在、過去、將來事實相反。重點:謂語動詞的表現形式特別是were to,should+動詞原形;虛擬條件句的倒裝(were/should/had在條件狀語從句的句首);條件狀語從句表示的行為和主句表示的行為所發生的時間不一致。
  下面是虛擬語氣(用于條件狀語從句)的課堂教學設計:
  教學目標:知識性目標:虛擬語氣在條件狀語從句中的運用。
  技能性目標:通過小組合作學習提升學生的自學能力,幫助他們養成一種良好的學習英語語法的習慣。
  情感性目標:通過學習,讓學生們感到合作學習的快樂,增加學習的自信心,更加樂于學習,對英語學習更有興趣。
  教學重點:虛擬語氣在條件狀語從句中的三種形式和虛擬語氣在條件狀語從句中的倒裝。
  教學難點:條件狀語從句表示的行為和主句表示的行為所發生的時間不一致。
  教學過程:
  Step 1:Lead-in
  There are three moods in English.They are the indicative mood(陳述句),the imperative mood(祈使語氣),and the subjunctive mood(虛擬語氣).
  Look at the following sentences,try to indicate what kind of mood it belongs to.(學生活動:采用合作學習方法,四人一組進行討論,選出一人來匯報)
  1.There are two sides to every question.每個問題都有兩個方面。
  2.Were you busy all day yesterday?昨天一整天你都很忙嗎?
  3.How good a teacher she is!她是多好的一位老師啊!
  The above sentences belong to the statement mood.
  4.Never be late again!再也不要遲到了。
  5.Don’t forget to turn off the light.別忘了關燈。
  The above sentences belong to the imperative mood.
  7.If I were a bird,I could fly freely in the air.如果我是一只小鳥,我就能在空中自由地飛翔。
  8.If I were at school again,I would study harder.如果我現在在校的話,我會好好學習的。
  9.If I were you,I should seize the chance to go abroad.如果我是你,我會抓住出國的機會。
  The above sentences belong to the subjunctive mood.
  語氣(mood)是動詞的一種形式,表示說話人對某一行為或事情的看法和態度。
  (此處的目的是讓學生初步感知英語中的三種語氣,在昨天的課上也提到了虛擬語氣,因此此時學生不難判斷7—9句的語氣。)
  Step 2:Introduce the kinds of mood
  語氣的種類:
  (1)陳述語氣(the indicative mood):表示動作或狀態是現實的、確定的或符合事實的,用于陳述句、疑問句和某些感嘆句。
  (2)祈使語氣(the imperative mood):表示說話人對對方的請求或命令。
  (3)虛擬語氣(The subjunctive mood):表示動作或狀態不是客觀存在的事實,而是說話人的主觀愿望、假設或推測等。
  (通過這一環節讓學生進一步掌握三種語氣的概念,從而為下面學習虛擬語氣打下基礎。)
  Step 3:The subjunctive mood——unreal conditionals
  虛擬條件句就是對現實條件的一種虛擬假設,所假設的條件一般不符合事實或與事實相反或在現實中發生的可能性極小。根據時間的不同,虛擬條件句可分為三種,即與現在事實相反的虛擬條件句、與過去事實相反的虛擬條件句及與將來事實相反的虛擬條件句。

  1.表示與現在事實相反
  If I had enough money now,I would lend it to you.
  If I were you,I would go to tell him the real feeling upon him.
  2.表示與過去事實相反
  If he had taken your advice,he wouldn’t have made such a bad mistake.
  She would have come to enjoy the party if she hadn’t been very busy.
  
  3.表示與將來事實相反
  If you came tomorrow,we would have the meeting.
  If it were to rain tomorrow,the sports meeting would be put off.
  If he should not come tomorrow,we should put off the meeting till next Monday.
  注意:(1)在與將來事實相反的條件從句中,我們可以用過去式、were to或should+do來表示。
  (2)當條件狀語從句表示的行為和主句表示的行為所發生的時間不一致時,動詞的形式要根據它所表示的時間作相應調整。如:
  If they had worked hard,they would be very tired.(從句說的是過去,主句指的是現在)
  If you had followed my advice,you would be better now.(從句說的是過去,主句指的是現在)
  (3)在虛擬語氣的從句中,動詞“be”的過去時態一律用“were”,不用was,即在從句中be用were代替。
  如:If he were here,everything would be all right.

  Step 3:The inversion of the unreal conditionals(虛擬條件句的省略)
  在虛擬條件句中,為了強調所假設條件的虛擬性,或突出說話人的一種主觀愿望,虛擬條件句可用省略結構。虛擬條件句的倒裝是通過去掉if,把條件從句謂語中的助動詞、情態動詞或系動詞(had,were,should)放在句首實現的。例如:
  Had I been in that situation,I would not have let the thief escape away with so much money.=If I had been in that situation,I would not have let the thief escape away with so much money.
  Should there be a drought,what should we do at that time?=If there should be a drought,what should we do at that time?
  Were I at school again,I would study harder.=If I were at school again,I would work harder.

  教后反思:
  本課采用多媒體教學,通過學生小組活動判斷句子的語氣引出所講內容,引起學生對即將學習虛擬語氣的興趣,減少陌生感。在教學過程中讓學生充分參與,激發學生的學習積極性,接著讓學生根據本課所學的知識進行總結,往往自己總結出的東西在腦海中能留下最深刻的印象。練習的設計由易到難,能夠滿足不同層次學生的需求,使他們得到不同層度的鍛煉,加深了學生對所學內容的印象。練習反饋情況良好,學生反映通過這樣系統的整理、練習,原來模糊的概念漸漸清晰多了,并且能較好地運用。
  本課的薄弱環節是學生對虛擬語氣在條件狀語從句中的倒裝(were,should,had在句首,條件狀語從句省去if)以及條件狀語從句表示的行為和主句表示的行為所發生的時間不一致掌握得不好。造成這種現象的原因是漢語是一種缺乏形態變化的語言,動詞沒有任何語態和時態的變化,中國學生在學習英語的過程中會受英漢兩種語言之間的這種差別的影響而不可避免地產生一些偏誤,因此在下節課的教學中要把以上易錯的知識點作為重點進行講授,幫助學生鞏固所學知識,養成用英語思維的習慣。
