AbstractReading is a complicated process.It is not a passive activity just for receiving language but a kind of positive and creative thinking activity.The main idea of this essay is that reading teaching should accomplish the transfer from thinking highly of passing on knowledge to attaching importance to the development of skills of getting information.Besides,the essay also elaborates the activities in pre-reading,while-reading and post-reading

Traditional reading courses make us feel bored.So how to arouse students requirements inside? And how to improve students language ability,thinking ability and communication ability effectively while developing their reading ability?

Firstly,to create situation elaborately to arouse the interests and the thirst for knowledge of students.Learning interest is a king of psychology tendency that makes students want to get close and research something happily.If students are interested in learning foreign language,they will think what they learned positively.Leading in the text content flexibly is a indispensable link in reading teaching.Only can we create situation elaborately,the motivation of students can be improved and their thoughts will become lively.Then,passive reading becomes positive reading.

Secondly,to treat students as the center and let them express their personality with abandon.Standards of English new courses ask teachers to implement the development of language application ability into teaching process and avoid instructing language knowledge only.We should promote experiencing,practicing,participating,communicating and cooperating.Let students feel successful and communicate with language gradually.“To treat students activities as center ” emphasizes training students interests and enthusiasm for the knowledge and make them think that language learning is requirements inside by students own observation.Finally,the roles of students change from receivers to analysts and enquirers

Thirdly,to teach the text entirely.Reading teaching should follow entire teaching principles.Teachers can guide students to begin with the illustrations in the text,title or the first sentence of each paragraph and come up with one or two questions.Then,students read the whole text quickly with the questions.After understanding the whole text,students find out the topic sentence of each paragraph and general idea of the text.We can divide the paragraphs into several parts and sum up them with charts or summaries to make the sequence of ideas clear.This means is not only helpful foe students to improve reading comprehension ability and analyzing ability,but also good for improving the writing ability later.It means that students know where they can start when they write the writings which are the same classification.It can promote students previewing consciously if they can insist on doing this.

Fourthly,it is necessary to connect extracurricular reading with class reading in English teaching in middle school.But our Chinese students are usually lack of Britain and American background knowledge.So we have to increase extracurricular reading and treat it as a kind of knowledge stretch.Some students are interested in P.E.They can get relevant knowledge by reading P.E.news.If students are interested in music,they can get lots of information by appreciating English songs and English lyrics.By connecting this two kinds of reading,we can broaden the eyesight of students and expand their cross-cultural and communicative ability and consciousness.

The development of education in 21st century comes up with higher requirements for English reading teaching.So,if a teacher can apply reading strategies appropriately,reading teaching will be successful.Teachers must pay attention to the change of their own roles and control the teaching rhythm.Then,teachers must train students to form good reading habits and choose different reading skills according to different reading aims.Only in this way can teachers get good reading results and achieve their reading aims.

Finally,only can teachers grasp chances to train,learn more and practice more,and complete their teaching strategies and methods gradually,the level of students reading must be able to arrive at a higher level.And what teachers do here is beneficial to the improvement of the students language,their thinking,and communicative ability.Improving students comprehensive quality is a sustainable process.It cant be accomplished in one day.It needs teachers endeavor.
