An Analysis on Teaching Models in Middle School English Classes

Teaching model is an important part of teaching, and the quality of teaching has been a major and decisive role in the middle school English classed. The range of teaching model is very broad, including a lot of contents. There are various theories in terms of the teaching model classification. Understanding teaching model helps teachers know more about accurate understanding of the proper implementation of the teaching process.

The term “teaching model” was originally put forward by American scholars B.Joyce and M.Weil, which was published in their book Models of Teaching. According to B. Joyce and M. Weil, “Under the guidance of certain teaching thought and theory, teaching model can be defined as a relatively stable framework and procedures of teaching activities. As a framework, it has highlighted the relationship and function between the whole and the elements of the teaching activities; as the procedures, it has highlighted the orderliness and operability of the teaching model”.

Teaching model is the general theory of teaching, the reflection of teaching ideas and teaching rules. It is the specific provisions of the activities in the teaching process between teachers and students. The implementation of the teaching program should follow the principles and considerations for using, and the guide between teachers teaching and students learning activities. From the point of view of teaching practice, teaching model is the comprehensive system of teaching methods, teaching means, teaching forms. It can make teachers clearly understand the specific steps of teaching, then teachers can translate abstract theories into concrete operational teaching procedures.

This part will mainly talk about three teaching models, Communicative Teaching Model, Task-based Language Teaching Model, and Situational Language Teaching Model. The Communicative Teaching Model consists of four parts, which are the communication between teachers and students, communication between students and questions, communication between students and students, and communication between students and themselves. Task-based Language Teaching is an influential teaching approach which was first started and radically established since 1980s. In fact, it is a further development of Communicative Language Teaching. With the development of TBLT, it has gradually become mature and been applied in teaching. Task-based Language Teaching is the teaching of teachers by guiding language learners to complete tasks in the classroom. This is an emphasis on “learning by doing” language teaching methods, and is the development of communicative teaching method. Actually, Task-based Language Teaching has aroused widespread attention in the world of language education. The Situational Language Teaching Model is developed from one kind of foreign language teaching methods on the basis of audiovisual law. The creation of a situational approach has its own distinctive pedagogy. First of all, teachers should use various means to create a specific situation and match what the students learn with scene pictures, so that students will practice listening and speaking while watching the screen, immersed in learning the English.

In the context of contemporary quality-oriented education, it is necessary to improve English classroom teaching and to promote the development of quality education in our country. Depending on the time required and the content of the lecture, teaching model is absolutely a guidance of teachers teaching and students learning. English teaching model acts as a guide in teaching so that teachers will no longer teach the students in blind. It helps teachers to select the appropriate teaching methods in different teaching environments for their teaching.

Overall, these teaching models can provide teaching ideas and methods for teachers, and the analysis on these teaching models can contributes to improve teachers ability to cultivate students comprehensive quality and enhance students capacity of knowledge innovation. Eventually, the analysis on teaching model in middle school English classes can make English classroom teaching keep advance with times and keep pace with the developments of quality oriented education.
