Some methods on cultivating interest in learning English

【Abstract】With the widely use of English in the world， more and more people realize the importance of English learning. Everyone knows interest is the best teacher in English learning. As is known to all， interest is an active factor for mankind to explore things and perform certain activities， and has a tendency to concentrate ones effects on learning. The interest of learning is an important integrant in the course of learning， and it is the most active and realistic factor of initiative and enthusiasm. Only when we experience that English-learning is a kind of interest， can we get the enthusiasm and motivation of English-learning. This thesis is talking about some methods to cultivate interest in learning English.

Introduction

As the saying goes： “ the man who knows it is not as good as the man who likes it；the man who likes it is not as good as the man who takes delight in it”. So when we want to make it easy in English-learning， the best way is to make it our hobby. In the following， the author will introduce some methods in his English-learning from five aspects.

Ⅰ. Raise Our Consciousness in English Learning

Having a better idea of the learning aim can raise the students consciousness in English learning. In this way， we can keep interest for a longer time， and raise our enthusiasm and activeness. So the first and the most important thing is to set a correct aim. It is not for test， for examination score， or for no reason. It must be love， which means that English-learning is the things you love. You know English is a tool that can help you in your work and in your life in the future and it can give you a chance to experience the foreign culture that you can never imagine before.

Ⅱ. Singing Songs

Music has had extreme positive influence on non-English speaking people in learning to read， write and remember. Songs， according to many scholars， can be an efficient instrument in foreign language learning. English songs play a great role in motivating people to learn English. They can be used not only for purposeful language practice， but also for motivating your interests and enhancing your involvement in learning English. Songs offer a change from routine classroom activities. Learning English through songs also provides a non-threatening atmosphere for people， who usually are tense when speaking English in a formal classroom setting.

Ⅲ. Learn the Backgroundendprint

Sometimes we know the meaning of all the words and the sentences. But we dont know what the author want to express. The reason why it happened is that there are conflicts in cultural background. So if we want to cultivate the interest of English-learning， it is better to learn some foreign culture.

Ⅳ. Make a Plan

How long do you need to study to achieve your goals？This answer is different for every people. The important thing is to be realistic. If you work 60 hours per week， dont plan on spending another 40 hours a week studying English. Start off slow， but study regularly. Use material that is challenging， but not too difficult. Find out what works for you. After you have studied for a few weeks， adjust your study schedule accordingly. If the plan you make makes you feel stressful. Then you will lose interest of the learning. So stop it immediately and change it.

Ⅴ. Watch Movies in English

A large number of Chinese students consider that learning English is a boring and even painful process. However， there is an interesting and effective way of learning English – watching movies in English.

Nowadays， with the help of internet and advanced science and technology， receiving information has been easier than ever before. We can get a lot of English movies through internet and use advanced devices to play them， such as laptop and mobile phone， anywhere and anytime. Watching movies is not only a kind of entertainment， but also an effective way of learning English.

Conclusion

Generally speaking， interest is a great auxiliary in English teaching and learning. This thesis only talks a few superficial ways to improve our interest in English learning. In a word， to learn English better， the best way is try to love it.
