中國4G用戶數量超過11億China Has over 1.1billion 4G Mobile Users

據工信部統計，中國4G移動互聯網用戶已超過11億。工信部的一份報告顯示，截至今年6月底，包括3G和4G用戶在內的移動寬帶用戶達到12.6億，占全國手機用戶總數的83.2%。上半年電信行業總收入為人民幣6720億元(約合994.4億美元)，同比增長4.1%。中國擁有全球最大的4G網絡，今年的目標是新增45萬座4G基站，以提高在諸如大廈、電梯及其他室內空間和鐵路、高速公路的信號覆蓋率。

The number of fourth-generation mobile internet users in China has exceeded 1.1 billion, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.Mobile broadband users including 3G and 4G subscribers reached 1.26 billion by the end of June this year, accounting for 83.2 percent of the country’s total mobile phone accounts, an MIIT report showed recently. The telecom sector raked in 672 billion yuan(US$99.44 billion) in business revenue , up 4.1 percent year on year.China has the world’s largest 4G network , with a goal to add 450,000 new 4G base stations this year to improve signal coverage in buildings, elevators, and other indoor space, as well as on railways and expressways.

By editing chromosomes—the DNA molecules that carry an organism’s genetic information—Chinese scientists have created a yeast strain with all the genetic information fused into a single chromosome, rather than the customary 16 for this species.It marks the first time that organisms that naturally have multiple chromosomes have been artificially transformed into a singlechromosome form, scientists said. The modified organisms have shown no change in their life functions from their natural counterparts, they said.The research team from Shanghai said the breakthrough may provide possible insights into further research on telomeres—the “caps” on either end of a chromosome, which are closely related to aging and disease—and the effectiveness of new medications targeting such “caps”.A paper about their research was published online by Nature, and scientists believed it was a milestone breakthrough in the field of synthetic biology.

漢語超德語成“英國高考”熱門科目A-level Results Day 2018: Chinese Overtakes German for First Time

在英國今年的A-level考試中，選考漢語的考生人數首次超過德語，漢語成為英國第三大熱門語言。今年有3334名學生報考了漢語A-level考試，德語有3058人。選考漢語的報名人數比去年增長了8.6%，而德語則減少了16.5%。法語仍然是A-level中選考人數最多的現代語言，其次是西班牙語。英國教育部國務大臣尼克·吉布說：“現在對年輕人來說，學習外語比以往時候都更加重要。一個開放的國際化國家需要新一代的年輕人熟悉海外貿易伙伴的語言和文化。”

Chinese A-level has overtaken German for the first time, as it becomes the UK’s third most popular language.This year 3,334 students took Chinese A-level, compared to 3,058 taking German. While entries for Chinese have increased by 8.6 percent since last year, German entries have declined by 16.5 percent.French remains the most popular modern language A-level followed by Spanish.Mark Herbert, director of schools and skills at the British Council,welcomed the rise in Chinese A-level entries.Nick Gibb, the schools minister, said: “It has never been more important for young people to learn a foreign language than now.An outward looking global nation needs a new generation of young people comfortable with the language and culture of our overseas trading partners.”
