在哈勒姆市中心一所昔日浸信會孤兒院的背后,是北荷蘭檔案館的閱覽大廳。該建筑坐落在歷史區(qū)域中,為有興趣的人提供可以查閱歷史文獻(xiàn)的場所。這座庫房擁有39,000份檔案,包括照片、印刷品和圖紙。大廳由新客觀主義的倡導(dǎo)者、建筑師J.P.克魯斯在20世紀(jì)設(shè)計。這座建筑需要翻新,而對該市不同層面的感知能力讓哈佩爾-科尼利斯-韋爾霍芬建筑事務(wù)所將這棟大樓改造成了吸引人的閱覽大廳和后勤辦公室。

大廳的前面是一座花園,可經(jīng)由一條小巷抵達(dá)。建筑師們用他們稱之為青銅色的前部構(gòu)造來取代原來的立面,打造了一個新的主入口。他們將高度提升至4.5m,與昔日的孤兒院翼樓完美地融合在一起,使閱覽大廳在建筑整體中更加突出。在凸起的屋頂邊緣,玻璃幕墻的后方寫著“NOORD-HOLLANDS ARCHIEF”(北荷蘭檔案館)。比起將其隱藏,清晰地將其注明更為合適。

Behind a former Baptist orphanage in Haarlem's inner city, the North Holland Archive's study hall is situated in a historical setting, providing a place for interested individuals to consult historical documents. The depot has 39,000 of archives,including photos, prints and drawings. Its hall was designed in the 20th century by architect J.P. Kloos,an exponent of the New Objectivity with accolades.The building needed renovation. With a sense for the city's different layers, Happel Cornelisse Verhoeven Architecten converted the building into an inviting study hall and back office.

At the front of the hall is a garden which can be reached through an alley. The architects replaced the original facade entirely with what they called a bronze coloured front construction, creating a new main entrance. They raised the height to 4.5 metres,blending harmoniously with the wings of the former orphanage, giving the study hall a more prominent place in the building ensemble. On the raised roof edge,behind the glass curtain wall NOORD-HOLLANDS ARCHIEF (North Holland Archives) is written. Instead of being hidden, it serves as a worthy address.

The study hall is supported by steel columns and continuous beams in a rigid pattern. In between the columns, new furniture pieces are like loose objects,neatly in a row. This creates an organised space with views, inviting associations to the reading rooms of 19th century libraries. 唐康碩:HCVA建筑事務(wù)所用一個非常嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)?shù)姆绞酵瓿闪吮焙商m檔案館的設(shè)計,建筑改造極大地尊重了場地上原有的3座建筑物和庭園中央的山毛櫸樹:建筑面向庭園部分的檐口被故意抬高1/3,使之能夠與原有建筑首層的線腳齊平;建筑外立面棕色的金屬板材料與原有建筑紅褐色的磚墻產(chǎn)生呼應(yīng),色調(diào)略深但又不至于突兀;密斯風(fēng)格的純凈落地玻璃正對著場地中央的山毛櫸樹,創(chuàng)造出建筑內(nèi)外空間視覺的連續(xù)性。

建筑內(nèi)部的地面、墻面、頂棚和結(jié)構(gòu)的梁柱都被處理成了純白色,與外部的深棕色調(diào)產(chǎn)生了極大的反差,這種直接而又強(qiáng)烈的對比時刻提醒人們所處空間與周圍環(huán)境的差異性。而室內(nèi)橡木家具的大量使用又似乎在家具尺度再一次尋找與外立面和庭院的聯(lián)系。相比于我們所熟悉的“荷蘭設(shè)計”,HCVA事務(wù)所用一個細(xì)膩而又純凈的方式詮釋了另一種“荷蘭”的設(shè)計姿態(tài)。

張淼:北荷蘭檔案館位于省會哈勒姆市中心的門諾派孤兒院庭院里。改造前的閱覽室是封閉庭院里的一棟配樓,經(jīng)由改造設(shè)計蛻變?yōu)橥ピ盒碌目臻g核心,與古老的櫸樹一起煥發(fā)出了新的活力。

作為一個舊建筑改造項(xiàng)目,建筑師選擇了使用低成本的操作方式,一方面保留原建筑的梁柱結(jié)構(gòu)和屋頂,另一方面重新定義外部界面和組織內(nèi)部功能。外部界面上,面對庭院一側(cè)用通高的玻璃幕墻與自然環(huán)境建立對話,并將立面高度抬升到與舊建筑層間裝飾線同高。這種與歷史和自然肩并肩共生和對話的方式,將原有的空間次序關(guān)系反轉(zhuǎn)。舊建筑化作庭院背景,通透的新界面成為空間活力所在。在內(nèi)部,由于原結(jié)構(gòu)的限制性,被建筑師重新設(shè)計的閱覽桌椅和存儲柜成為組織空間的元素,通過將家具在柱網(wǎng)之間以矩陣格局放置,加強(qiáng)了視覺和體驗(yàn)上的空間的連續(xù)性,也是一種化被動為主動的處理方式。

TANG Kangshuo:HCVA Architecten has completed the design of the North Holland Archives in a very rigorous manner. The renovation respects the three original buildings on the site and the beech tree in the middle of the garden as much as possible: the eaves of the part of the building facing the garden are deliberately raised by 1/3 to make them level with the architrave of the first floor of the original buildings;the brown metal panels of the facade echo the reddishbrown brick walls of the original buildings, in a slightly darker but not abrupt tone; the pure floor-to-ceiling glass of the style of Mies faces the beech tree in the centre of the site, creating a visual continuity through the interior and exterior spaces of the building.

The interior floors, walls, ceilings and structural beams and columns of the building are all treated as pure white, creating a great contrast with the dark brown tone of the exterior. This direct and strong contrast reminds people of the differences between the space and the surrounding environment. And the extensive use of oaken furniture indoors seems to be once again looking for connections with the outer facades and the yard in the furniture scale. Compared with the "Dutch design" we're familiar with, HCVA interprets "Dutch design" gesture in another delicate and pure way. (Translated by CHEN Yuxiao)

ZHANG Miao:The North Holland Archives are located in the courtyard of the Amish orphanage in the centre of Haarlem, the capital city of Noord Holland. Before the renovation, the reading room was a matching building in the closed courtyard, which has been transformed into the new space core of the courtyard through the renovation, and radiates new vitality together with the old beech tree.

As an old building renovation project, the architects chose to use a low-cost operation way,which was retaining the beam-column structure and the roof of the original building on the one hand, and redefining the external interface and organizing internal functions on the other hand.On the exterior interface, a high glass curtain wall is used on the side facing the courtyard to establish a dialogue with the natural environment,and the elevation height is raised as high as the decorative line between floors in the old buildings.This way of shoulder to shoulder coexistence and dialogue with the history and the nature reverses the original spate order relation. The old buildings are reinterpreted a courtyard background, and the transparent new interface becomes where the vitality of space lies. In the interior space, due to the limitations of the original structure, the reading tables and chairs and storage cabinets redesigned by the architects become the elements that organise the space. By placing furniture in a matrix pattern between the columns, the spacial continuity of vision and experience is strengthened.
