A trip to London doesnt have to be eye-wateringly expensive. Here are four hotels in the city that provide an excellent sleep (and more) without maxing (刷爆) your credit card.

On May 19th, Mike Massino was setting off on his holiday. Mr Massinos journey was certainly unusual! So was the transport he chose, and the price of his trip.

The 60-year-old multi-millionaire(千萬富翁)from New York was sitting on board Dragon Spacecraft(宇宙飛船). He was on a journey to the International Space Station. It might have been an ordinary trip for the two soldier astronauts who were traveling with him, but for him it was certainly no usual journey. Mike Massino was among the first tourists ever in space, and he had paid $20 million to go there. As the spacecraft left the earths atmosphere, Massino drank a glass of fruit juice to celebrate and looked down at the earths blue-green surface. Two minutes later, he was sick. Luckily it was only a small problem. He soon recovered, and from then on enjoyed a smooth journey. When he arrived at the space station, there was a big smile on his face.“A great trip!An amazing trip!”he commented.

Companies like SpaceXII are investing much money in space travel. Instead of renting seats from Russian spaceships, they have spent the past couple decades working tirelessly and strictly to make trips to space cheaper. They want the public to take control of space and space travel, not just governments. There are other plans, like trips through space from one side of the world to the other. Maybe we will be able to set off from New York at nine

oclock in the morning, and arrive an hour later — in Tokyo!Such a schedule would allow the business traveler to return to New York on the same day, and still have eight hours for a meeting!

4. Why was it an unusual journey for Mike Massino?

A. He made an official trip to the Russian Space Station.

B. He invested all of his wealth in space travel.

C. He was one of the first tourists ever in space.

D. He spent decades making space travel cheaper.

5. How did Mike Massino feel about his space travel?

A. Delightful.????????????????? B. Scared.

C. Uncomfortable.??????????? D. Disappointed.

6. What is the purpose of companies like SpaceXII investing so much money in space travel?

A. To serve ordinary people better.

B. To take control of the universe.

C. To make space travel cost less.

D. To meet the needs of business travelers.

7. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

A. Business Journeys

B. Space Trips

C. A Space Exploration

D. A Frightening Adventure

C

If Bush and Vinje have a free moment and a few extra dollars, theyre planning a trip to, say, a beach or Disney Castle, with their 7-year-old twin boys. They are proud their children know how to travel, whether the family of four books a flight or hits the road.

“Travel is a way for us to explore cultures, amazing food and architecture, and to see that there is more to life than just our way of doing things.”says Bush. They learn how to make travel arrangements like applying for a visa and packing the right things.”

But last year, the couple were eager to try something different. They watched as long commutes(通勤)took up their together time and their kids spent more time at daycare than in their flat. Soon, they began to think—could they take their lives on the road, making the world into their unique office and classroom?

The familys journey began as they crossed the United States, then headed to Mexico and went southward to Costa Rica. They believe in“slow travel,”where they spend a lot of time in one place and arrange time for work and school to keep life on the road as functional(正常運作的)as possible, rather than racing from“checking in”to“checking out”and crossing items off a list.

As the family hiked through Manuel Antonio, the kids happily recognized animals they saw along the path, including monkeys, iguanas and sloths. The week before, Vinje had shown them a nature documentary(紀錄片)so that they could learn the names of different animals.

In addition to admiring the views, traveling is also a lesson in paring down life to necessaries. The family has limited their travel to warm-weather places so that they dont need to pack coats and mostly do schoolwork on laptops instead of in heavy textbooks. One exception was made for Julians Harry Potter, which the family reads together and then leaves for another family when finished.

8. What can be inferred about the Bushes from Paragraph 1?

A. They like to buy books for the twins.

B. Their boys know where to go.

C. They are interested in traveling.

D. They prefer to planes to cars.

9. Why did the couple decide to try something different?

A. To contact local people.

B. To visit destinations suitable for kids.

C. To widen kids sight.

D. To spend more time with kids.

10. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?

A. The details of“slow travel”.

B. The source of“slow travel”.

C. Their chosen destinations.

D. The racing between destinations.

11. What does the underlined phrase“paring down life to necessaries”in the last paragraph refers to?

A. Choosing warm-weather places.

B. Taking out the unnecessary things.

C. Making an exception for Harry Potter.

D. Doing schoolwork on laptops.

D

The package tour to Egypt carried me to many of the most important parts of ancient Egyptian civilisation.

We first visited the famous Pyramids of Giza, built around 2500 BCE. As we walked closer to these architectural wonders, I felt the sudden excitement of discovering their ancient beauty through the gaps that stand between Cairos modern high rises. Standing in the shadows of the 481-foot Great Pyramid of Khufu (胡夫金字塔)—the largest building in the group, I couldnt stop wondering about what it would be like to enter the tomb through the narrow passage. The Solar Boat Museum houses a repaired wooden ship built to transport Pharaoh Khufu to the afterlife. And then we looked up at the Great Sphinx of Giza, where we saw the Egyptians great efforts to build stone structures. I learned about the workers who built the pyramids, how the pyramids were built, and how the temples worked.

Moving south, we met the New Kingdom in Luxor. We paid a visit to the Luxor Museum to carefully study ancient relics(遺跡)including royal mummies(皇家木乃伊)and more than a dozen well-protected statues unearthed beneath the Luxor Temple courtyard in 1989. After nightfall, we visited the temple itself, lit up to show the grand of its towering columns and larger-than-life statues.

We then headed back to Cairo to review the whole progression in the Egyptian Museum. The true excellent part is how we voyaged through 2,500 years of Egyptian civilization in turns.

Modern Egypt has something for everyone—from desert wilderness(荒野)to golden palaces, ancient treasures to modern art, medieval(中世紀)marketplaces to shopping centers. Bring your sun hat, your camera, and your curiosity, and you will all have a great trip.

12. What made the author excited?

A. The beauty of modern buildings.

B. The sight of the pyramids.

C. The long history of the pyramids.

D. The package tour to Egypt.

13. What can we learn from Paragraph 2?

A. The author wanted to enter the Great Pyramid of Khufu.

B. The Solar Boat Museum is famous for the largest boat.

C. Pharaoh Khufu went to the afterlife by ship.

D. The pyramids stand for Egyptians building skills.

14. What do we know about the Luxor Museum?

A. It was built for the most powerful emperor.

B. It is built beneath the Luxor Temple.

C. It collects many mummies and statues.

D. It can be visited only at night.

15. In which section of a magazine may this text appear?

A. History.???????????????? B. Technology.

C. Economy.?????????????? D. Travel.
