【Abstract】Using multimedia technology in English teaching can make our class lively and interesting. It can improve the quality and efficiency of English teaching so much that lots of teachers like to use it in class. But this new teaching method also puts forward higher requirements to the English teachers. To fully use the advantages of multimedia teaching, the teachers must renew their educational idea, improve their ability of organization and cooperate with others well. English teachers should also establish the concept of lifelong learning. If they can meet these new requirements, the English teachers can improve the quality of English teaching and cultivate excellent students.

With the rapid development of multimedia and network technology, multimedia teaching is considered to be a new means of teaching and is widely used in college English teaching. As an advanced teaching method, multimedia teaching has been improving the quality of teaching and enhancing the teaching effect greatly. It changed the teaching environment and the teaching process, even the method of English teaching. It impacted peoples concept of education violently, and at the same time, this new teaching method also put forward higher requirements to the English teachers . In this new situation, the college English teachers should understand the characteristics of the multimedia teaching environment correctly in order to adapt to the development of the new age. Only to enhance their own quality as soon as possible and adapt to the new changes of the modern teaching tool actively, the English teachers can improve the quality of teaching effectively, so they can achieve their goal of cultivate high-quality and all-round development students.

I.the new requirements of the multimedia teaching to the teachers teaching ideas

在傳統的英語課堂教學中,沿襲著黑板加粉筆的那種單向的、獨白的,灌輸式的教學模式;學習內容枯燥乏味。教師千篇一律地使用同一種教學方法,不注重學生的個性差異和接受能力的差異,不對學生進行因材施教,導致了學生個性被壓抑、師生關系僵化,致使學生喪失了主動思考的積極性,也難以激發每一個學生求知的潛能和欲望。而應用多媒體技術后的教學方式,與傳統的教學方式已完全不同,具有多樣化的特點。計算機可以把文字、圖形、圖像、聲音、音樂、動畫、色彩、視頻圖像等多媒體信息集合于一體,信息處理能力強,速度快,給學生創設了一個良好的英語語言環境并提供了充分的語言實踐機會,為教學營造了輕松愉快的氛圍,使原本枯燥無味的學習內容變得更具生動性、趣味性,并在現場創設了真實的語言情境,從而極大地引發學生的學習興趣,使學生從被動填充式教育轉變到主動求知創新式教育中來。

In the traditional English teaching, the English teacher wrote the learning materials on the blackboard ,the students listened and kept the notes. It was the kind of one-way, the teachers monologue, instilled teaching mode. In this mode of teaching, the students would get bored to learn soon. Teachers could not pay attention to the individual differences of students and teach students in accordance with their aptitude. The result of traditional English teaching was that the student personalities has been repressed, the relationship between teachers and students became rigid. As a result, many students lost their enthusiasm of active thinking, and it was hard for the teachers to stimulate students learning potential and desire. With the application of multimedia technology , the traditional teaching methods have been completely changed. Computer can show so many information on the screen, such as words, graphics, images, sounds, music, video image and so on. It can create a good environment to the students for English language and provide adequate opportunities for language practice. It can create a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere in English class, make originally boring learning materials become more vivid and interesting. It can also create a real language situation, greatly raise students interest in learning, enable students to learn actively.

At the same time, the new teaching method also puts forward new requirements to the quality of teachers. Firstly, the teachers are required to change the role from the traditional teachers to mentors of the students .The process of teaching should become a promotion of student development. University English teachers must blast through obstacles of the traditional education ideas, improve their own quality, reconstruction of new educational idea. With the help of multimedia teaching, the English teachers should develop each students personality fully, give students the equal opportunity and rights to show their talents, create the necessary atmosphere in class to enrich the spiritual world of the students. If the teachers want to open the inner world of the students, they must establish a good relationship with the them. Both parties can trust and understand each other. Secondly, teachers should know it is the student who plays the main role in the teaching. So the teacher should let the students participate in the teaching actively . During the teaching, let the students enjoy their time to speak English. The teachers should encourage them to speak freely and listen carefully to every student ,do not measure the students expression good or bad on the right or wrong standard. In this way, the communication between teachers and students will be strengthen, and students ability of using language can also be improved. Thirdly, Multimedia teaching can provide a lot of information in a short period of time, including everything that one can expects. If teachers want to use these information easily, they need to become the all-round development teachers. They cant only be familiar with a single subject but should be a knowledgeable teacher. Therefore , only the teachers have a wide range of knowledge can help the students to learn better . So, teachers should change their idea on the teaching objectives and the relationship between teachers and students, so as to adapt to the new requirements of multimedia teaching environment.

II.the new requirements of the multimedia teaching to the teachers teaching ability

Although the multimedia teaching materials provide with well prepared PPT , teachers must rearrange the PPT before class to adapt to the different ?needs of teaching. This puts forward new requirements to the English teachers. To engage in the development of curriculum, teachers must master the modern educational technology knowledge and related subjects, able to write teaching courseware skillfully. In addition, teachers should spend more time on the educational scientific research, design and develop more teaching courseware. Of course, in the process of writing courseware, teachers should fully consider how to combine the characteristics of the physical and mental development of the students and their practical ability with the teaching materials, so as to achieve the teaching goal to the greatest extent. To achieve the new goals, the teachers must improve their teaching abilities as soon as possible .They should use network resources to enrich teaching material, determine the ideal teaching content according to the different characteristics and needs of students, thus to reach the goal of cultivation of students autonomous learning ability .

The purpose of preparing the courseware is to teach the lesson well. A successful class relies on the teachers expression ability and solid basic skills. In addition to, the teachers teaching method used in the class play a key role too. With the multimedia teaching, teachers should use new teaching methods and help students to form their own learning ways. College English teaching has formed a teaching mode of teachers speaking and students listening for a long time, and the students ability of autonomous learning became so poor. In the multimedia teaching, the teacher provides the students with a large amount of information in a short time. At the beginning, the students will seem to be at a loss for facing so many materials and learning objectives. In this situation, the role of teachers is particularly important. Teachers should help the students to choose the best way to reach the goal of learning, stimulate students interest in learning, help students determine the appropriate learning objectives and tell them how to efficient learning. Teachers should also help the students use the convenient conditions of learning in the school, tell them how to find needed information on the Internet very quickly and use that information to complete the task of learning; how to solve the difficulties in learning, so as to get what they want to learn. All of these depend on the quality of the teachers, so the teachers should change their function from a speaker to the organizer and guide of the teaching.

III.the new requirements of the multimedia teaching to the teachers learning and cooperation ability

In traditional English teaching, teachers often taught and solved all the problems of the teaching by themselves. Teachers from different school were isolated from each other with little communication. In the multimedia teaching, supported by the technology of computer and network , the teachers from different places can cooperate with each other and exchange their ideas easily. Teachers from different universities can use network to learn from each other; discuss teaching method and teaching mode; share teaching software and courseware written by themselves. English teachers in different universities can also work together to overcome the difficulties in teaching. Therefore, group learning becomes an important task. Teachers must learn how to work with the other teacher; learn the advantages of others, try to make their own teaching to be more perfect. Compared the foreign language teaching to other jobs, English teaching is a special job. The ?English teachers are required not only to understand the theory, but also have rich practical experience; it is necessary for them to have knowledge of foreign languages and the knowledge of how to teach a foreign language. Now the society changes quickly, in order to be in an invincible position in the society, the English teachers must become a learner and establish the idea of lifelong learning.

All in all, in the multimedia teaching, in order to adapt to the modern English teaching, College English teachers must improve their own qualities and abilities , change their traditional education idea, good at learning and cooperation. Only in this way can the English teachers improve their professional qualification ?and meet the needs of the future education.
