Vocabulary Learning Strategies for Junior High School Students

◆Abstract:As one of the three major components that constitute the English language,vocabulary plays an important role in English language.However,for many years,vocabulary teaching in senior high schools has not been given due attention.Most of the vocabulary is based on teaching the pronunciation,form and meaning of words by students’ own memorization.There are few studies on vocabulary learning strategies of junior hign school students.In order to change this situation,this study,based on the analysis of various theories of vocabulary learning,aims to discuss strategies to improve the effectiveness of junior high school English vocabulary learning.

1 Introduction

You can’t walk a thousand miles without cumulative effort.It is better to use this sentence to explain the meaning of vocabulary.Vocabulary is like staggering.Only by constantly absorbing and making progress,and finally reading ten thousand volumes of books and traveling ten thousand miles.Vocabulary is also like a stream,the world of vocabulary is endless.In this endless world of vocabulary,every word,whether pronunciation,meaning,composition has its own unique features.Finally,vocabulary constitutes a sentence,sentence constitutes a paragraph,and paragraph forms a beautiful article,which makes people admire.

2 Current Problems in English Vocabulary Teaching in Junior High School

2.1 Inaccurate Vocabulary Pronunciation

Many middle school students are troubled by inaccurate words.The main reasons are as follows: First,the restriction of teachers’teaching level.Under the influence of traditional teaching methods,some teachers do not accurately locate the pronunciation of words.Long-term transmission of incorrect pronunciation to students will inevitably affect their English pronunciation.Second,the pronunciation of words goes into a misunderstanding.Some students are influenced by the initial phonetic alphabet and the phonetic notation of Chinese characters.

2.2 Many Difficulties in Memorizing Words

The high standard requirement for vocabulary recognition is one of the characteristics of middle school English.Therefore,students need to devote more time and energy to vocabulary recognition.Affected by age,high school life is lively,and it is difficult to maintain a long attention to one thing.Some students will get bored after memorizing words for a period of time.Instead of accumulating what they have learned effectively,they will easily go into learning errors.And middle school students have a heavy burden of entering school,and they need to face all kinds of pressures.If we don’t have enough time to memorize words,we can’t accurately memorize new words.Such a vicious circle will affect students’ learning enthusiasm.

3 English Vocabulary Learning Strategies Exploring in Junior High School

Communication is the purpose of vocabulary learning.However,the current English teaching has not paid enough attention to the link of communication,which leads to the fact that English learning is not really applied to practice and is out of touch with the real life,and can not stimulate students’ interest in learning.It can be seen that the integration of words into life is of great significance to the learning of English words.Teachers can also use video,pictures and other forms to guide students to master relevant knowledge and background.

4 Conclusion

The most basic element in sentences is words.Students think that one of the most difficult reasons for memorizing words is that they do not associate words.Water droplets can only show their significance in the sea.Therefore,students need to integrate words into the text,with the help of paragraph interpretation,understand the meaning of words,and then quickly memorize.Such a strategy can enable students to memorize a large number of words in a subtle way,making it the deepest memory in their minds.
