Last weekend, I helped my grandparents prepare their trip to Beidaihe. On Saturday morning, together with my grandparents, I searched the Internet for the train schedule, the weather in Beidaile, and some hotel information. In the afternoon, I went to the train station and managed to buy two tickets for my grandparents although there was a long queue. After dinner, I packed into the suitcase the things my grandparents need, such as clothes, glasses, an umbrella, and a map. The next morning, I went to the station to see them off. Waving goodbye to them on the platform, I felt happy for them and wished them a safe journey.

Which would you give up: TV, cell, or Web?
We are now living in an information age, in which TV, cells and the web are widely used and many people cannot enjoy themselves without them. However, if I had to give up one of them, I would turn off the TV rather than switch off my cell or cut off the internet. I could do without TV because few shows are my fancy, and there’re too many commercials. Besides, most programs on TV are also available online. As for cells and the Web, they are more necessary to me. I need a cell to keep in touch with my friends and family, and almost all information can be gathered on the Internet.

Boys and girls,
It’s a great honor for me to tell you something about our English club which lasts for two months. We organize all kinds of activities in our English club,in which we not only practise but also learn more English. For example, recently, at one of our activities about introducing different countries at Shanghai Expo, we divided ourselves into different groups which represented different countries, such as China, Japan, America, the UK and so on. Each group introduced “their country’s” culture, advanced technology, environment protection, new green energy and tried to describe the development in the future. Through this activity, we have had a good harvest in English and improved our oral English greatly.
All in all, I think studying English by activities, especially in connection with recent things, is a better method.
That’s all. Thank you.

Good morning, everyone!
The topic of my speech today is “Thoughts on becoming a grown-up.”
As a child, I always hoped that I could grow up as soon as possible so that I could have whatever I wanted and do whatever I liked. Now I’m a grown-up, but I find things do not go as I expected. Although I can enjoy more freedom, at the same time I realize that being a grown-up not only means this, but also more responsibilities. I hope to do more for my parents and society in the future to make my life more meaningful. To reach the goal, I must first try my best to pass the college entrance examination and enter a good university.
Thank you for your listening.
(九)
Dear Sue,
I’m Li Hua, one of your students in China. It’s almost a month since you left us and we all miss you and are very grateful for what you did for us.
The other day we had an English speech contest in which I won the first prize and this again reminds me of all your kind help. Yesterday we went to water the trees we planted together on the hill behind the school. The tree you planted yourself is growing well, and the whole class decided to name it Sue Wood in your honor.
We hope to know more about you and your American students and hope to keep in close touch.
All the best,
Li Hua

Subject: Cancel travelling to Beijing
Dear Tom,
I regret to tell you that I can’t travel to Beijing together with you at the appointed time because I’ve caught a terrible cold after I swam in the East Lake yesterday. This morning I told my mother that I had a headache and my mother found that I had a high fever after taking my temperature. I was taken to see a doctor, who advised me to stay in bed for three days and also suggested that we put off travelling to Beijing when I told him our plan. If I hadn’t swum in the lake, I would be enjoying the trip in the company of you, my best friend and introduce Chinese culture to you. Maybe we can make it sometime next month, so is that OK?
Best wishes to you!
Yours,
Li Hua

Magic Power of Polite Words
More and more people attach great importance to relationship in study and career success. Being polite is the first and most important step to develop good relationship among people,so polite words can be easy yet very powerful in your daily life. For example, always saying “please” and “thank you” will make people feel more comfortable and more willing to offer help when necessary. Always be grateful to other people’s kindness and show your gratitude through the words you speak.
Although some people may easily ignore the importance of being polite, we students should form good habits and behavior in good manners. Not only should we learn to be friendly to our parents and relatives at home but we should also listen respectfully when our teachers instruct us.
Remember, being polite costs nothing but it’s worth of?million dollars.
(十二)
No body language can be more attractive/fascinating than smiling because not only can a beautiful smile make ourselves happy, but also it enables others to feel delighted. There are times when a smile is so powerful that it gives people suffering from disasters tremendous courage.
A little boy named Lang Zheng, for instance, impressed and encouraged a great many people when a serious earthquake hit Wen Chuan. Right after he was rescued by the soldiers from the ruins, he saluted and gave them a smile, which was like sunshine warming people who were in sadness.
It is safe /no exaggeration to say that without smile our life would be colorless and difficult.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am Li Hua from Class One, Senior Two. I hear our school will choose some excellent students to coach the students in Chenxi Hope School in English. Being lively and independent, not only do I have the ability of solving problems by myself, but I also have the language advantages over others and express myself freely.
If I am chosen, I will make a whole teaching plan in which I will divide the students into small groups and lead them to practise speaking English in an interesting way in class. At the same time, we’ll tell English stories, learn to sing English songs and see English films to improve their English interest. I hope I can contain education in amusement.
If you choose me, I will be very glad. I’m looking forward to your reply.
Yours Sincerely,
Hua

Star Student of the Week
Li Yue has been awarded the title of “Star Student of the Week” for what she did for our class. On the afternoon of last Saturday, Li Yue went downtown and walked from one store to another, looking for the costumes we would wear in the singing contest regardless of the hot weather. While the rest of us were enjoying our leisure time in cool and comfortable rooms, she took great pains to search, select and manage to find the right clothes. Deeply moved by her efforts, we tried our best and won the first prize in the contest.
Being warm-hearted and caring a lot about the class, Li Yue often devotes her spare time to helping others. She has set a good example for us so she deserves the honor and we should learn from her.
