如何概括故事類文章的內容要點

對故事類文章進行概括時，首先要找出“起因、經過、結果”，以及故事的思想意義；然后用一兩句話將其表達出來即可。

建議考生先用中文思維理清故事大意，然后再翻譯成英語，這樣既能抓住要點，又能降低難度。

[實例分析]（東莞市2010-2011學年度高三第一次調研考試）

閱讀下面的短文，然后用約30個詞概括Monty Roberts的成長故事。

I have a friend named Monty Roberts who owns a horse ranch（牧馬場） in San Ysidro. When he was a senior， he was asked to write a paper about what he wanted to be and do when he grew up.

The next day he handed it in to the teacher. On the front was a large red F. The boy with the dream asked， “Why did I receive an F?”

The teacher said， “This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you. You have no money. You come from an itinerant（四處奔波） family. You have no resources. Owning a horse ranch requires a lot of money. You have to buy the land. You have to pay for the original breeding stock and later you’ll have to pay large stud fees. There’s no way you could ever do it.”

He stated， “You can keep the F and I’ll keep my dream.”

The best part of the story is that two summers ago that same schoolteacher brought 30 kids to camp out on my ranch for a week. When the teacher was leaving， he said， “Look， Monty， I can tell you this now. When I was your teacher， I was something of a dream stealer. During those years I stole a lot of kids’ dreams. Fortunately you had enough gumption not to give up yours.”

結果：Finally/ Eventually he succeeded. (in running a horse ranch)

思想意義：One should hold on to his belief. 或One should stick to his belief. 或With strong belief， one will succeed.

Step 2. 用自己的一兩句話將其表達出來。

（1）This passage tells us that Monty Roberts， who had strong belief that he would own a horse ranch (用定語從句寫起因)， didn’t give up his dream（思想意義）when he was discouraged(經過). Eventually he succeeded in owning a horse ranch(結果).

（2）When Monty Roberts was young， he dreamed of owning a horse ranch， but was discouraged by his teacher. However， he didn’t give up and eventually he succeeded. It is believed that with a strong will， one will succeed.

Some years ago， leaving the farm to work in the city， three brothers were employed by the same company and on the same pay. But three years later， they received different wages. Today was the day I started my new summer holiday part-time job and I had a problem. I woke late because I had forgotten to set my alarm. I should have done this as I hadn’t used the bike for months. I hurried to get the pump but I found that it was broken. It was almost as if someone was trying to stop me from getting there.

Would I lose my job before I had even started? I tried to stay calm. I knew that worrying wouldn’t help me find a solution. I needed to think clearly. I needed a plan. Then I remembered my neighbor Mike had a motorcycle. I ran to his front door and explained my problem. He happily agreed to take me there and I arrived on time!

When I got home I thought about what happened that morning. I realized that I was wrong to leave everything to the last minute and that the best solution to a problem is avoiding the problem in the first place.

I hired a carpenter to help me repair an old farmhouse. After he just finished a tiring day on the job， a flat tire made him lose an hour of work. Worse still， his ancient truck refused to start. When I drove him home， he sat in stony silence. On arriving， he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door， he stopped for a short time at a small tree， touching the branches with both hands. When opening the door， his brown face was covered with smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.

After supper， he walked with me to the car. When we passed the tree and my curiosity drove me to ask him， “Before we went in， why did you stop by the tree?” “Oh， that’s my trouble tree，” he replied， “I knowI can’t help having troubles on the job and in my life， but those troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and children. I can hang them up on the tree every night before I come home. ltturned out that the next morning there weren’t as many troubles as I remembered the night before. Put down our worries for a moment and we will be relieved for ever.”
