【Abstract】With the development of computer technology, access to computer and internet has become possible, thus make it possible for students to study on line. Under such circumstance, corpus appeared and corpus based teaching method has become popular among the world.

I. Introduction

Corpus are able to provide rich authentic native language material, and fully guarantee learners a large enough real corpus input, which help students actively explore the deep meaning of the target vocabulary words, and provides an important prerequisite for authentic vocabulary using. Compared with the traditional vocabulary teaching methods, the advantage of using corpus in vocabulary teaching is to get rid of the traditional method of learning vocabulary.

II. Vocabulary Teaching and Corpus

1.Vocabulary

Vocabulary is an important part of language knowledge. Vocabulary is the cornerstone of language construction. It plays an important role in the development of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

2.Corpus

The corpus comes from Latin, meaning “body”, which refers to the benchmark library that use the computer to deal with the written and spoken language, which can be seen as the material pool to study language. Corpus or corpora is a database devoted to research, which use a large number of language information that integrated in real situations (Leech, 1991: 8).

3.Corpus Based Vocabulary Teaching

Tim Johns proposed a foreign language learning method based on corpus data in the early 1990s, called Data-driven learning (DDL). The corpus linguistics teaching advocates a self-learning model. In this mode, learners touch a large number of real corpuses, and then by the teachers guide, self-discovery language meaning and usage in the corpus, its classification, finalization and generalization (Identify-Classify-Generalize). In addition, teachers can organize a good note handouts printed to students for classroom teaching, and they also can based on the actual situation to teaching the two together.
