Based on the comparison and analysis of the two sets of terms in accordance with the four rules of taxonomic relationship, semantic field, motivation, and word formation of the nomenclature, it is suggested that the core concept of emergency language should be adopted for the terminology consistency, and the equivalent English translation of emergency language-related terms is provided based on the terminology survey in international literature and the rules of nomenclature translation. Constructing Cultural Memory: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Literal Signs

SHEN Wen-jing

Abstract:Sign is an effective way to approach the speaker/writer. As a time-honored narration, oracle bone and tortoise shell inscriptions intertwine literal signs with image signs. The former ones usher us into rational contemplation, and the latter engage us in

physical perception and emotional experience. Cultural memory, which is constructive, entails remembering and forgetting to provide an effective way for interpreting the heritage and the writing culture. Based on the framework of critical discourse analysis, this paper combines linguistic relativity, linguistic thinking and iconicity theory to analyse the oracle inscriptions. It is found that the oracle signs imply the view of universe, nature and being, constructing a collectively shared knowledge, namely cultural memory, and realizing the reunion between then and now. This study aims to provide a CDA perspective for the study of literal signs and cultural memory.

The differences lie in reporting topics, translation methods, the positions of interpretation and the forms of translation.China emphasizes the implementation effects, while Japan focuses on potential geopolitical influences. The word-to-word translation is the only way in Chinese media, while various translation methods are used in Japanese media. China’s interpretation positions are mostly after the term, while Japan’s are before the term. China’s translation forms are rather simple, while Japan’s are complex.
