Following the successes of designing office buildings for high-tech companies such as Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent, CCDI’s architects, based on years of explorations and practices, a passion to care for the society, and extraordinary expertise to balance romantic ideals and harsh realities inherent in the development of a high-tech industrial park, again presented Nanshan District and even Shenzhen City with a creative center, Shenzhen Software Industry Base, that can light up dreams.
With the goal of creating spaces that can inspire ideas and support innovation, the architects, realizing that in the context of the information-driven society, a highly user-friendly design featuring beautiful landscapes and an appropriate number of entertainment facilities should be the right answer to building a modern high-tech park. Therefore, the architects made great efforts to create open public spaces to relieve the workers’ pressures while stimulating their vitality for innovation, and encouraging interactions between people as well as between people and nature to inspire creating thinking.
In terms of spatial volumes, careful attention was paid to control the sizes of spaces to ensure a pleasant experience. Each of the nine 11-storey office buildings features an elevated public platform on the fifth and sixth floors, which serves as the waistline to connect the functions of the building at the height of 25 meters to echo with the podiums of surrounding buildings, thus defining pleasant courtyard spaces and forming a complex of diversified spaces distributed vertically through combination with surrounding high-rise buildings. In this way, a three-dimensional system of urban spaces integrated and characterized by changing features came into shape.
As for the landscape, a large number of ground squares, elevated composite public spaces on the bottom floor, rooftop gardens, spacious open-theater-like outdoor ladder platforms, and staircases at different elevations, and green plants help to enrich the landscape of the site, making spaces more interesting and fun. Besides, connections at different levels also increase accessibility of spaces, thus stimulating the vigor of the site. The spaces inside and below elevated cross-street arcades are a good response to the hot climate of Shenzhen. Green plants are seen here and there to make outdoor spaces and public spaces suitable for walking. As a result, people can walk comfortably, protected by continuous shades from the sun while enjoying interesting changes of views. In addition, there are many formal and informal places for communication and activities inside the park, which encourage interactions and form an organic system of public spaces for people to network.
