An Analysis of “Smart English Class” in Primary School

【Abstract】Primary school students have a strong curiosity and desire for knowledge of English. However, as time goes on, the amount of learning content is getting bigger and bigger. The difficulty gradually increased. Most students tend to be less interested in English. So how to maintain students' interest in English learning? The issue that How to construct a Smart English class should be attached great significance.

1.The concept of Smart English class

In a smart English class, the teacher should play the role of a guide. The master of the class is the students. In the class, teachers' cramming method of teaching will lead to students' laziness. If the class is to be active, the students must be active. The students should make notes frequently and follow the teacher to listen carefully while thinking a lot as deeply as possible. Only when students learn to think and practice in person, can they get the biggest benefits. Moreover, teachers should guide the students to move. As a new teaching concept, it advocates that primary school English teachers should build vivid teaching classes, make them flexible and interesting. In this way, the students are no longer passively accept the knowledge taught by the teacher, but full of passion for learning, full of curiosity about knowledge. Teaching tools are not limited to the traditional blackboard and lecture notes, and it requires teachers to make full use of information teaching tools, such as: multimedia technology. It allows students to receive learning information from multiple senses simultaneously.

2.How to Construct "Smart Class" in Primary School English

2.1.Create interesting learning situations

Elementary school students thinking is mainly composed of image thinking. Therefore, for the construction of smart class, teachers need to create a good learning environment for students and enhance students' perception of language. Especially during the development of modern science, teaching methods have been gradually innovated. Teachers should be good at using multimedia and other advanced technologies to create vivid language communication situations and stimulate students' interest in learning.

2.2.English Songs

It is very significant to create a relaxing atmosphere in teaching. Teachers can choose English songs related to the teaching theme to create a sound teaching situation, so that students can free themselves from the monotonous learning atmosphere. With the melody of the music, appropriate actions can be added to lead to the teaching theme. This enables students to devote themselves to the class and improve their learning efficiency.

2.3.The game teaching

Games can transform passive acceptance into enjoyment in a way. Through game teaching, vivid and interesting story situations can be created to imitate the language scene and make students willing to speak English. In addition, game teaching can cultivate children's self-motivation ability and enhance their desire to learn English. For example, when teaching a new lesson about the stationery, the teachers can apply the "guessing game". A bag before the class should be prepared. The teacher should put a variety of common stationery items in it and ask the students to guess "Can you guess what's in my bag?". Students will tell the names of stationery they know one by one. In this process, the guessing game can arouse their curiosity and practice the language. Finally, they can achieve the purpose of the lesson and memorize the words about stationery in a relaxing process.

2.4.Role play

Wilkins once said that "the standard of success in foreign language learning should not be how many sentences, phrases and new words students can recite, or how many grammatical rules they know, but how many creative expressions they can express in the language they have learned." However, there are many obstacles that can not be ignored in the improvement of students' expression ability, so many relevant solutions have been put forward, such as the dialogue practice, group discussion, role play and so on. Among the above teaching methods, role play should be the most effective way to enable students to quickly improve their expression ability.

Role play actually refers to a certain communicative situation set by the teacher, in which students discuss in groups and choose their own roles freely. After a certain amount of preparation and practice, students must use body language and oral expression to explain an event or a communication process. Students must use their own experience and information to solve problems and learn to cooperate when they are acting. For example, in the teaching process of the topic Drinks. Teachers can make use of multimedia technology to make a shop selling all kinds of drinks for students. Then the students play the roles of consumers and shopkeepers, and practice the interesting situation of a small English dialogue. The students take an active part in the practice and use the key sentence patterns of this unit.

To sum up, primary school English teachers should adopt flexible and effective ways to build smart class and integrate the cultivation of English subject literacy into all aspects of teaching. Whats more, the teachers should constantly improve the quality of primary School English teaching by creating interesting learning situations, stimulating students' interest in learning, and adopting modern and diversified teaching methods.
