淺析英漢之間親屬稱謂的區別

摘 要： 作為社會語言學領域的重要組成部分，親屬稱謂能反映人們的思想、心理及社會文化制度。英漢親屬稱謂系統存在巨大差異，文化差異是其主要原因。

一、引言

親屬稱謂是說話者在談話時用來指定親屬的，在日常生活中起著重要作用。親屬稱謂是一種語言現象，也是一種文化現象。英漢之間不同的親屬稱謂顯示了不同的文化和理念，為了人與人之間更好地溝通與交流，區分兩種語言之間的親屬關系系統極為必要。由于不同民族、不同語言、不同時代的社會文化背景不同，便產生了不同的親屬關系和制度，其稱謂體系也不同。

二、英漢之間親屬稱謂的對比

英語的親屬系統較漢語簡單，英語中只有少數的親屬稱謂，如father，mother，son，和daughter可以對等的在漢語里分別表達為“父親”，“母親”，“兒子”和“女兒”，但漢語的稱謂遠比英語要復雜得多。然而，不管是何種語言，其親屬系統都根據性別、年齡、輩分、血緣和婚姻等因素進行分類。以下顯示了三代以內英漢親屬稱謂的對比：

（外）祖父/母（Grandfather/grandmother）：Paternal/Maternal grandfather/grandmother。

（外）孫子/女（Grandson/granddaughter）：Daughter’s/Son’s son/daughter。

哥哥（姐姐）/弟弟（妹妹）（brother/sister）：Elder/younger brother sister。

伯/叔父（Uncle）：Paternal uncle，Father’s elder/younger brother。

姑父（Uncle）：Husband of father’s sister。

舅父（Uncle）：Maternal uncle，Mother’s brother。

姨父（Uncle）：Maternal uncle，Husband of mother’s sister。

伯/叔母（aunt）：Paternal aunt，Father’s elder/younger brother’s wife。

姑母（aunt）：Father’s sister。

舅母（aunt）：Maternal aunt，Mother’s brother’s wife。

姨母（aunt）：Maternal aunt，Mother’s sister。

姐/妹夫（Brother-in-law）：Elder/younger sister’s husband。

嫂子/弟妹（Sister-in-law）：Elder/younger brother’s wife。

堂哥/弟（Cousin）；Father’s elder/younger brother’s son。

姑表哥/弟（Cousin）：Father’s elder/younger sister’s son。

舅表哥/弟（Cousin）：Mother’s elder/younger brother’s son。

姨表哥/弟（Cousin）：Mother’s elder/younger sister’s son。

堂姐/妹（Cousin）：Father’s elder/younger brother’s daughter。

姑表姐/妹（Cousin）：Father’s elder/younger sister’s daughter。

舅表姐/妹（Cousin）：Mother’s elder/younger brother’s daughter。

姨表姐/妹（Cousin）：Mother’s elder/younger sister’s daughter。

堂侄/外甥（Nephew）：Brother’s/Sister’s son。

表侄（Nephew）：Wife’s sibling’s son。

堂侄女/外甥女（Niece）：Brother’s/Sister’s daughter。

表侄女（Niece）：Wife’s sibling’s daughter。

英漢之間的親屬稱謂存在諸多差異，從性別和年齡而言，英語中的“cousin”一詞在漢語中有如“堂哥/弟”，“堂姐/妹”，“表哥/弟”，“表姐/妹”等表示。此外，就血緣和婚姻方面而言，“cousin”在英語中的“兄/弟”和“姐/妹”按不同的標簽進一步劃分，直系親屬用標簽“堂”，旁系親屬用標簽“表”。因此，“cousin”包含“堂姐/妹”、“堂兄/弟”、“表姐/妹”、“表兄/弟”等含義。在漢語中，父親的父親被稱為“祖父”，父親的母親被稱為“祖母”，母親的父親和母親的母親分別被稱為“外祖父”和“外祖母”?！巴狻痹跐h語中的字面意思是“外面”，表明代與代之間垂直的關系不僅是血緣關系，而且是某些外在的因素如婚姻關系。由此，可以看出英語不太重視血緣和姻親關系的差異，而漢語則非常重視。

三、結語

漢語親屬稱謂系統豐富、復雜，英語親屬稱謂系統簡單、籠統。親屬關系是人們日常生活的最重要的關系之一，理解英漢之間的親屬系統，選擇恰當的稱謂，對跨文化交際很有必要也很有幫助。
